Me + Charlie = True Luv 4eva

I think I won some sort of MBTA lottery today.

1. I got to my bus stop 10-15 minutes before the next bus was scheduled to arrive but within a minute, one showed up. It was practically empty so I got a seat to myself AND it only made one stop so I made it to Malden Center in 7 minutes.

2. Got to the inbound platform just as a train was pulling in. Platform was mostly empty, as was the train, so no problem getting a seat. Train remained only 3/4ths full so there was no crush of people in my face

3. Got to DTX, very quickly I might add, and found the Braintree/Ashmont platform crowded with angry people. Guess the red line was delayed. No matter, I just went out the street exit on the platform, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself two blocks closer to work than if I had gone out where I usually do.

4. Then, the topper on this MBTA lovefest? The Newport Ave Ext. entrance at North Quincy was open after class! Usually it closes at 7:45, meaning I have to walk all the way across the dark, freezing parking lot, up the stairs to the W. Squantum St. entrance, and then back down the platform (I like to get on at the front of the train so I don’t have to walk down the mostly-deserted red line platform at DTX when I switch to the orange), which makes me angry every single time. Tonight, though, it was a quick walk from class to that entrance, and there was a warm vestibule to wait in! Oh if it could be like that every week.

I don’t know what I did to deserve such fabulous T-karma but Charlie, at least for this one day, I love you.

Martha + Snoop = Lovizzle fo shizzle

This is why I have always and will always love Martha Stewart.

Snoop Dogg making mashed potatoes with Martha Stewart.

Highlights include Martha reminiscing about how she and the d-o-double-g met and reading emails Snoop sent her and stumbling over his terminology, including pronouncing “boo” as though his intent was to frighten her; Snoop asking what they’re making and Martha saying “Mashed potatoes!” impatiently as though he’s asked this 7 times already; Martha getting flustered when she realizes that they’re using white pepper and demanding that someone bring them some black pepper; Snoop admiring Martha’s mixer color choice; Martha trying to sexify Snoop’s bottle of Cognac (which he adds to his potatoes) and exposing the bottle’s breast; Snoop digging his fingers into Martha’s potato bowl and her not removing his hand with a finely-honed Santoku.

A big congratulations to my own personal MVP, Dustin Pedroia for being officially recognized as the MVP of the American League.

So I guess Evan Grant is feeling pretty silly today, huh?

I was obsessively checking various websites all day and when it finally showed up as confirmed on redsox.com, you should have seen the grin on my face. Why, it was like this! (incidentally, this is the 4th time I’ve posted this picture)

First Red Sox win since Mo Vaughn in 95, the 10th Red Sox player to get one overall, and only one of three players to win consecutive ROY and MVP honors.

I’m so proud of him!

His name hasn’t come up at all but man, wouldn’t it RULE if Obama appointed Richard Blumenthal? I miss him terribly since leaving CT.

Now that the other election is over, it’s time to focus on baseball awards!

Congratulations to Dustin Pedroia for receiving a Gold Glove for his work at 2nd this season. Look at that winning form!

Next stop: MVP!

Where were you when?

We went to some friends’ house tonight for a little election night party. We had dips and apps and beer and laughed our heads off.

We were getting tired around 10:30 but decided to hang on til the next wave of poll closures. We switched to Comedy Central for a bit and were watching Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert when they put up the President-Elect Obama graphic. We all looked at each other like “Is that real or is that a gag?” My friend’s husband reached the remote first and flipped back to CNN, where we were greeted with a BREAKING NEWS graphic and cheering crowds in Grant Park. My friend burst into tears. Nate ran for the champagne. We popped it open and toasted history, new friends, and a bright new future.

It’s a good night.

Song for tomorrow

It was a slow day,
And the sun was beating
On the soldiers by the side of the road,
There was a bright light,
A shattering of shop windows
The bomb in the baby carriage
Was wired to the radio,
These are the days of miracle and wonder,
This is the long distance call,
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all,
The way we look to a distant constellation
That’s dying in a corner of the sky,
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby don’t cry
Don’t cry

It was a dry wind,
And it swept across the desert
And it curled into the circle of birth,
And the dead sand,
Falling on the children
The mothers and the fathers
And the automatic earth,
These are the days of miracle and wonder,
This is the long distance call,
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all o-yeah,
The way we look to a distant constellation
That’s dying in a corner of the sky,
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby don’t cry
Don’t cry

It’s a turn-around jump shot
It’s everybody jump start
It’s, every generation throws a hero up the pop charts,
Medicine is magical and magical is art think of
The Boy in the Bubble
And the baby with the baboon heart

And I believe
These are the days of lasers in the jungle,
Lasers in the jungle somewhere,
Staccato signals of constant information,
A loose affiliation of millionaires
And billionaires and baby,
These are the days of miracle and wonder,
This is the long distance call,
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all o-yeah,
The way we look to a distant constellation
That’s dying in a corner of the sky,
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby don’t cry
Don’t cry don’t cry

Palin on SNL/VOTE
icon1 Flann | icon2 Uncategorized | icon4 11 3rd, 2008| icon3No Comments »

We’re watching the SNL presidential bash thing and Palin did a little address where she was supposed to be joking? I think? About her reaction to finding out that SNL was lampooning her.

It was the scariest thing I have ever seen. Bitches be crazy, yo.

I actually got the chills. She had an unnerving look in her eye.

Hold me. And please vote tomorrow. Please. Cause I’m afraid.

I had my first Wilton’s cake decorating class at AC Moore today! If I’m any good at it, perhaps you will get some photos of my creations. I’m pretty excited to learn how to do more than slap frosting on. I already have some fancy tools like frosting tips, a leveler for making layers, and these thingies that you wrap around the cake pan so the cake doesn’t rise too much in the middle.

It’s my fall-back in case this nursing school thing doesn’t pan out. Sent in my app for that Friday. Not really sure what to think so I’m not thinking about it at all.
